Opposition has mandate ?

Bullshit !

Just look at todays summary of election results, the Greens got a bigger swing than the Liberals. What does this say about the will of Australians ? do they really want a party that is skeptical about climate change, as one example.

93.2% counted.
Updated Sat Sep 11 11:53AM
Party % Vote Swing Won Predict
Labor 38.0 -5.4 72
Coalition 43.7 +1.5 73
Greens 11.7 +4.0 1
Others 6.6 -0.1 4

Did you know this is the primary vote ? What this means is that anyone that voted for someone in there seat who was very unlikely to get in eg; most Greens, used there vote to show they wanted change but more than likely intended there preferences to indicate who would win power (Default or entered). For Example a Green vote with Labor as the first preference.

Also if you look into the details of this result you will find that in many seats labor had sometimes large swings towards them. How can this indicate a large scale swing to the opposition ? The actual seats that changed hands were small, here is the list

Time Count % Electorate Held By Margin 2PP % Swing Predict
15:23 94.7 La Trobe L/NP 0.5 50.9 1.4% to ALP ALP GAIN

12:08 93.5 Longman ALP 1.9 51.9 3.8% to LNP LNP GAIN

Notice that LIB/LNP won only 15 seats off the ALP. Note below that of these 10 had bigger swings to the greens than to the LNP/LIB party. All had swings towards the Greens.

  • Bennelong LNP +3 Greens +2.4
  • Gilmore LIB +5.1 Greens +1.5
  • Hasluck LIB -1.4 Greens +4.5
  • Macarther LIB +1.8 Green +1.3
  • Macquarie LIB -0.2 Green +3.1
  • Swan LIB +2.8 Green +1.7

You may question the legitimacy of the Labor government but you can not grant that legitimacy to the Liberals.
